A new toy

Posted in FOUND: Objects with tags on January 29, 2011 by benriddering

I just bought this Davis & Wells horizontal boring machine. I intend to restore it and use it for mortising. Now all I need is an XY table. I’m also looking for a Jacobs 34B chuck (3/4″ spindle,  16tpi)–it has gone out of production. Anyone have an extra?

Inspiration from Steve Bewley

Posted in FOUND: Objects with tags on July 29, 2010 by benriddering

My friend, Steve Bewley, has been working on some limited edition lamps and chandeliers. I was inspired by this chandelier made from nearly 100% reclaimed parts and pieces (including a crab net, a water drain, and who knows what else…). Steve has an entire line of amazing lighting. FOUND OBJECT: 16″d Hand Riveted Stove Pipe

Posted in FOUND: Objects with tags , , on November 28, 2009 by benriddering

This would make a great pedestal table base (or two). It’s an old hand riveted stove pipe from a building in the L.A. area–probably about 100 years old (that’s a guess). This pipe was assembled in 4′ sections because that’s about as far as a guy could get into (the inside of the) the pipe to pound the back side of the rivets.
