Bunk Beds

Finally finished my boy’s bunk beds. bunk-beds-3241We used walnut that I had rejected for other projects (pieces with bug holes, big structural cracks that needed to be filled with epoxy, extra sappy pieces, etc.).bunk-beds-3260And we incorporated a live edge into each headboard.bunk-beds-3243 The lower bunks are up high so that we can eventually build a bank of drawers to put under there.

Dutchman Patches

Dutchman patches and bow ties for three days straight on this live edge walnut headboard. The “Dutchman patch” is an inlay technique that has been around forever (AKA: butterflies, bow ties, keys, etc) . These repairs and reinforcements are commonly seen on boats, furniture, doors, etc. The photo below shows an antique with some dutchman patches.Dutchman Patch  I’ll post more photos of the headboard when I get it finished.

Introducing the “Cubodron” Collection

After a lot of blood, sweat, and beers, I’m happy to introduce a new collection of accent tables: the “Cubodron” collection. “Cubodron” is short for cuboctahedron, the name coined by Archimedes for this geodesic shape (6 squares intersecting with 8 triangles). These unique tables are hand-clad with hammered metal on all sides, allowing them to be turned and positioned in any number of different ways. The metal has a beautiful rustic patina and a lightly hammered texture. Available in copper or steel.

For the Misses

My wife and I finished building our new bed (finally!). It’s been a long process of weekend and evening work. IMG_3413

Funny thing is, this piece was inspired by a murder scene! We occasionally watch a sitcom called “Castle”. When this murder scene (below) came on the screen Shannon paused the show, turned to me and said, “I want that bed!” She made a screenshot of the scene, which we used for our inspiration, and we began working on it. photo
